Corrections policy & public log
We take accuracy seriously. When we publish a correction, we note it here with the date and a short description of what changed. This page is the single source of truth for every material change we have made.

Policy
Compare HVAC Pro publishes YMYL (Your Money or Your Life) content — homeowners making multi-thousand-dollar decisions rely on our facts. That is a responsibility. When we get something wrong, we:
- Fix the page. Within one business week of a validated report.
- Date-stamp the change. The page’s byline or data-provenance strip reflects the new review date.
- Log the correction here. Every material correction (factual claim changed, directory row removed, ranking algorithm adjusted, pricing updated) gets an entry below with date, scope, and summary.
- Notify the reporter. If the correction came from a homeowner or contractor report, we confirm by email once the change is live.
What counts as a correction
Not every edit is a correction. Routine freshness updates (weekly review-count refreshes, quarterly cost-range recalibrations, license re-verifications on the normal cadence) are not logged individually — they happen continuously and are documented in aggregate on the methodology page under “Data freshness”.
We do log:
- Factual errors corrected (wrong license number, wrong service area, wrong rebate amount, wrong equipment model).
- Directory rows removed or merged (closed businesses, neighborhood duplicates, delisted providers).
- Changes to the ranking algorithm that move providers up or down in shortlists.
- Coverage decisions (cities noindexed, states launched or paused, page types retired).
- Rebate and incentive program changes that affect our cost tables (program closures, credit amounts changed, eligibility narrowed).
How to report an error
Email editorial@comparehvacpro.com with the page URL and a one-line description of what’s wrong. If you can, include a link to a primary source (state license lookup, utility program page, official regulatory document) that shows the correct value — that dramatically shortens our verification time.
For general contact options (editorial inquiries, partnership questions, homeowner support), see our contact page.
Corrections log
Most recent corrections first. This list is complete from the site’s formal editorial-policy launch in April 2026 onward; corrections made before that date were handled inline without a public log.
2026-04-23 · Sitemap / coverage audit
Marked 7,502 city pages as noindex where underlying contractor coverage was insufficient to serve a useful page. Affected pages return 404 and have been removed from the sitemap. Rationale: a ranked shortlist needs at least 4 verified providers to be useful; thin pages were inflating coverage without value.
2026-04-22 · Location directory cleanup
Removed 141 non-city locations (neighborhood and census-designated-place duplicates) from the directory after an audit found they were inflating coverage without adding real contractor distinction. Example: neighborhoods within Portland, OR that shared the same contractor base as the parent city.
